Archie solicits Betty's help in trying to release a domesticated raccoon into the wild. Betty recounts her day at the county fair with her friends for her diary. In their roles as camp counselors, Betty and Archie take a special interest in a loner child nicknamed "Gloomy Gus." Using her criminology book to help young Binky Barnes look for his stolen bicycle, Betty and the boy stumble onto a theft ring that steals bikes and breaks them down to sell for parts.
